Hazel Armstrong

Hazel is a partner in the legal firm Hazel Armstrong Law hazelarmstronglaw.co.nz. Hazel has been working as lawyer in ACC law since 1998. Prior to 1998 Hazel represented workers who were members of unions as a union official from 1976 in ACC union matters and has therefore seen all the changes in the ACC schemes over that time. Hazel regularly appears at review and appeals and works alongside claimants for rehabilitation and return to work. Hazel is the spokesperson for the ACC Futures advocacy group around policy and legislative reform. Hazel is a member of the the NZ Law Society ACC Committee. In 2014, Hazel was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the New Zealand Workplace Health and Safety Awards. Hazel is the author of the book Blood on the Coal: The origins and future of New Zealand’s Accident Compensation scheme. 

Ben Thompson

Ben Thompson is a partner in Hazel Armstrong Law and is a member of the NZ Law Society ACC Committee. Ben is an experienced litigator in NZ and the UK as a personal injury lawyer. In 2014 Ben won the Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year award at the NZ Law Awards. He published a book on accident compensation law titled Accident Compensation Act: Key Sections and Commentary. Ben has established a branch of the firm in Tauranga to extend their coverage to the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.
